We are dancemakers, story tellers, and thinkers, seeking to raise the profile of modern dance in D.C. Through collaboration and performance, we challenge our bodies and minds to create meaningful art that evokes emotion and makes audiences think. We value a collective process that draws together people from diverse artistic backgrounds. We are Glade Dance Collective.

OVERVIEW

  • The NACHMO DC January Challenge is a focused month of dance-making, which culminates in an internal showing of the draft pieces at the end of January.
  • Choreographers receive feedback from a panel of expert adjudicators, as well as fellow NACHMO participants, to support the further development of their pieces.
  • NACHMO DC provides benefits to registered choreographers, including an audition to find dancers and a stipend for presenting a draft work.
  • A selection of the new works are presented in a fully-produced theater show as a part of the INTERSECTIONS Festival at Atlas Performining Arts Center on Saturday, February 15.
  • We strongly recommend that all attendees stay up to date on eligible vaccinations, especially those protecting against covid-19 and the seasonal flu.
  • NACHMO DC 2025 is an in-person program; if you live outside the DC area or wish to create a dance film, please register with NACHMO.org and join the National Hub.
  • Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited. Register early to get a spot!

About nachmo

To quote the founders, Sharyn Korey and Anna Brown Massey, ❝For one month each year, we put aside our excuses, our hesitations, and perhaps our day jobs to work intensely on making dance.❞

Started in New York in 2010 and inspired by National Novel Writing Month, NACHMO pushes dancers to choreograph by challenging them to create a new work in just one month. Since 2010, NACHMO has expanded from New York to include Boston, San Francisco, D.C., and other regions.

NACHMO DC

NACHMO DC began in late 2014 through a partnership between Glade and New Street Dance Group, with our first showcase in 2015. Check out the NACHMO DC YouTube channel to see some of our past creations!
