Dance Collective

We are dancemakers, story tellers, and thinkers, seeking to raise the profile of modern dance in D.C. Through collaboration and performance, we challenge our bodies and minds to create meaningful art that evokes emotion and makes audiences think. We value a collective process that draws together people from diverse artistic backgrounds. We are Glade Dance Collective.

  • Pieces may be up to 5 minutes long

  • Present your piece for critical feedback at an internal showing.

  • You may cast dancers under the age of 18 in your piece; however, you assume responsibility for them while they are participating in NACHMO events, and a signed parental permission slip must be provided for each minor dancer before they may attend the open rehearsals or performances. Email nachmodc[at] if you need the permission slip.

Registered Artist Pass choreographers enjoy these benefits:

  • Selected pieces will be chosen through an adjudicated process for production at the NACHMO DC Final Showcase at the Jack Guidone Theater at Joy of Motion | Friendship Heights in February 2020. Pieces not selected for the NACHMO DC Final Showcase will be shown at an informal showing open to the public.

  • Time during dancers’ auditions

  • Access to shared open rehearsal space

  • Critical feedback on your work by an experienced panel

  • Video and photography of their piece from the NACHMO performances

  • Additional benefits tbd.

NACHMO DC reserves the right to restrict access to benefits if deadlines and requirements are not met.

For dancers

NACHMO is a unique opportunity to be part of a short-term dance project that culminates in a professionally produced performance.

Casting decisions and rehearsal schedules are set by the individual choreographers and can vary from a few hours over the month to several rehearsals per week. Be up front about your schedule and expectations when communicating with your choreographer. Email nachmodc[at] if you have questions about dancing in a piece.

About nachmo

To quote the founders, Sharyn Korey and Anna Brown Massey, ❝For one month each year, we put aside our excuses, our hesitations, and perhaps our day jobs to work intensely on making dance.❞

Started in New York in 2010 and inspired by National Novel Writing Month, NACHMO pushes dancers to choreograph by challenging them to create a new work in just one month. Since 2010, NACHMO has expanded from New York to include Boston, San Francisco, D.C., and other regions.

NACHMO DC began in late 2014 through a partnership between Glade and New Street Dance Group, with our first showcase in 2015. Now celebrating the fifth  year of NACHMO DC, we are excited to continue to help DC artists kick off the new year with dance.

Check out the NACHMO DC YouTube channel to see some of our past creations!

Congrats to past NACHMO DC choreographers!
